Saudi Arabia is administratively divided into 13 provinces, also called Emirates ( manāṭiq idāriyya , singular: minṭaqa idāriyya ).
Each province is divided into a total of 118 governorates (administrative districts) ( Arabic محافظات muḥāfaẓāt , singular: muḥāfaza). This also includes the provincial capitals, which have a different status than special cities (amana) and whichare ruledby mayors (amīn). The governorates will continue to be divided into sub-governorates (marākiz, singularmarkaz).
