Lists on the subject |
The Daewoo XK8 , also known as DAR 21 , is an assault rifle in Bullpupdesign that of Daewoo was developed to the assault rifle Daewoo K2 of the South Korean armed forces to replace. However, it was rejected in favor of the Daewoo K11 and did not go into mass production. It is very similar in appearance and system to the Tavor TAR-21 manufactured by Israel Military Industries .
history
The South Korean Defense Agency for Defense Development (ADD) began studies for a new infantry weapons system in April 2000. There was a choice between an OICW system and a modern conventional assault rifle in Bullpup design. After the Americans had problems with the HK XM29 and the resulting splitting of the program into a grenade weapon ( XM25 ) and an assault rifle ( XM8 ), both concepts were pursued in Korea for safety, as modernization of the infantry armament was deemed to be absolutely necessary. The reason for this is the mountainous, armored terrain, in which armored units find it difficult to support the advancing infantry. It was all the more important to increase the combat strength of the infantry, since the army of the enemy North Korea is numerically far superior to that of the South.
The rifle was presented by DAEWOO PRECISION INDUSTRIES at IDEX 2003 in Abu Dhabi . The project was canceled when the success of the Daewoo K11 development became apparent.
technology
The rifle is the South Korean counterpart to the HK XM8 , which is why the military designation XK8 was given (the "X" stands for experimental). The rifle is constructed in the bullpup design and consists entirely of plastic except for the barrel, breech and small parts. It fires the 5.56 × 45 mm NATO cartridge from STANAG magazines, such as those used in the Daewoo K2 . The weapon is a gas pressure loader with a rotating head lock and impulse piston ( AR-18 / G36 design). The loading lever is located on the left side of the fore-end like on the Tavor TAR-21 . The assault rifle can only be fired from the right shoulder as the position of the lever and the case ejector (right) cannot be changed. The weapon has a Picatinny rail on the top for mounting telescopic sights , reflex sights , laser aiming aids , etc. With the laser aiming aid, telescopic sight and empty magazine, the weapon weighs 3.8 kg. You can choose between belay, single fire , burst of fire (3 shots) and continuous fire . The rate of continuous fire is 800 rounds / min.
