IMI Systems (formerly: Israel Military Industries ) is an Israeli arms company based in Ramat Hasharon .

The company was founded in 1933 during the British Mandate over Palestine , at that time as a supplier of arms and ammunition to the Hagana Jewish underground movement . IMI has been owned by the State of Israel since the State of Israel was founded in 1948 and was entirely under the Ministry of Defense .

Today, IMI mainly manufactures armaments and defense systems for land and air vehicles and ammunition.

In 2005 the small arms division was spun off and privatized under the name Israel Weapon Industries (IWI). IWI manufactures the Uzi submachine gun , the Galil and Tavor assault rifles , the Negev light machine gun and the Jericho 941 (Baby Eagle) and Desert Eagle pistols .

In 2016 the company name was changed from Israel Military Industries to IMI Systems and the logo was adapted. In November 2018, IMI was completely taken over by Elbit Systems for an amount equivalent to US $ 495 million and thereby privatized.
