Dag (mythology)
Dagr ( Old Norse for "day"), also Dag , is the personification of the day in Norse mythology .
He is the son of Dellings and the Nótt "night". Comparable to his mother at night, during the day he drives a gilded car across the sky. The mane of his horse Skinfaxi (roughly "shining mane") fills the air and the earth with its shine. According to Snorri Sturluson , the Döglingar family , to which Helgi Hundingsbani also belongs, comes from him .
Dag is still a male given name in Scandinavia today , for example Dag Hammarskjöld .
