Dagmar Preising

Dagmar Preising (* 1956 in Eschweiler ) is a German art historian and curator. She has been head of the graphics collection at the Suermondt Ludwig Museum in Aachen since 1994 and headed the Couven Museum there from 2007 to 2016 . She researches and publishes on the late Middle Ages and the early modern period as well as on the 19th century .

Life

Dagmar Preising studied art history , building history and history at RWTH Aachen University and art history, classical archeology and medieval studies at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . As part of her dissertation in Munich in 1994, she investigated the shape and function of Gothic relic tablets and reliquary altars . In the 1980s she had already carried out inventory projects at the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum in Aachen and was responsible for several smaller catalogs. After completing her doctorate, she stayed in the museum from 1994 as curator for sculpture and graphics.

She held a teaching position at the Institute for Art History at RWTH Aachen University from 1998 until 2006, and since 1998 she has been a member of the editorial team of Aachener Kunstblätter , in which she published numerous articles.

From 2007 to 2016, in addition to her duties at Suermondt-Ludwig, she took over the management of the Couven Museum, where the number of visitors to the museum doubled within two years.
