Daimonji ( Japanese 大 文字 ) is a Japanese progressive rock trio whose music is attributed to the Zeuhl style . In contrast to other Zeuhl bands, Daimonji's music is completely improvised.
The band gave their first concert in 2002 - still under the name "Improg". In 2003 the band name was changed to Daimonji, and their debut album with recordings from the first gig was titled Improg .
Drummer Tatsuya Yoshida , owner of the Magaibutsu label, founded the band Ruins and is also active with Koenjihyakkei and Korekyojinn , among others . Bassist Mitsuro Nasuno was a member of the jazzcore band Ground Zero and is also a member of Korekyojinn; Keyboardist Hoppy Kamiyama also runs the God Mountain label.
