Daisy Earles , actually Hilda Emma Schneider , also known as Daisy Doll (born April 29, 1907 in Stolpen , Germany , † March 15, 1980 in Sarasota , Florida ) was a German - American short - stalked actress.

Life

Daisy Earles was born in Stolpen, Saxony under the name Hilda Emma Schneider. She was one of seven siblings, four of whom were short. Hilda probably followed her older siblings Harry Earles and Grace Earles to the USA around 1920 or a little later; later the youngest sister, Tiny Doll, was added. At the side of her three short siblings, Daisy got into show business, they appeared together as The Doll Family . She worked with her siblings at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for about thirty years ; here she was nicknamed the Midget Mae West because of her small but pretty stature .

In 1928, Daisy played her first film role in the film Three-Ring Marriage . Her best-known role was that of Frieda in the classic film Freaks from 1932. Here she played at the side of her brother, who played Frieda's fiancé Hans. Daisy then played minor roles in two other films: in 1939 she played a Munchkin in the classic film The Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland and in 1952 she was in The Greatest Show in the World , directed by Cecil B. DeMille .

Daisy married in 1942, but Louis E. Runyan was divorced that year and Daisy returned to her family. In 1958, all four Earles siblings withdrew from show business. They spent their twilight years together at their home in Sarasota. Daisy Earles' life was featured in the 1999 documentary film Freaks Uncensored! received and in 2005 Christophe Bier dedicated her memory Ce nain que je ne saurais voir! .
