In 1869 the Alpine Club built a 21 m high tower, which was replaced by a new one in 1888. In 1921 it was taken over by the Beautification Society. The second building was closed in 1932 and demolished in 1934. In 1971 the plans for today's 36 m high control room were completed. The opening took place on October 1, 1972. The cost was around 800,000  schillings (2018: 240,000 euros). The last renovation took place in May / June 2014. This concerned one of the posts, the load-bearing structure of the top platform and the plank supports. The cost was around 20,800 euros. The control room can carry a maximum of 40 people at the same time. It was created with the help of the province of Upper Austria , the city of Steyr and the population of Steyr and the surrounding area.
