Damian von Sebottendorf (* 1519 ; † 1585 ) was a German court counselor and from 1557 until his death Reichspfennigmeister in the Upper and Lower Saxon Empire .

Life

Until his death in 1553 he served as secret secretary for the Elector Moritz von Sachsen . Subsequently , under his successor August , he was councilor. In 1563 Damian von Sebottendorf held the office of chief tax collector and had been a privy councilor since 1574. He also acted as an assessor at the Court of Justice, served as a diplomat in foreign negotiations and, as a collector of the potion tax or in the senior tax committee, played an important role in the financial administration of the state of Saxony.

In addition, he was active as Reichspfennigmeister and Pfennigmeister of the Reichskreis. He has held the office of Reichspfennigmeister responsible for the Lower and Upper Saxon Reichskreis since the Reichstag in Augsburg in 1556/57. At this Reichstag the spatial division of the Reichspfennigmeister's responsibilities between two office holders was decided. Damian von Sebottendorf was the first Reichspfennigmeister for the two Saxon imperial circles and held this office until his death in 1585.

Damian von Sebottendorf initiated the reconstruction of the manor house in Rottwerndorf in the style of a Renaissance castle from 1556 .

In 1580 a Tam von Sebottendorf acquired the villages of Schönwald , Nollendorf and Peterswald in the Eastern Ore Mountains, which belong to the crown of Bohemia . The manor house and the Meierhof date from this time.
