Dammkarwurm

Dammkarwurm is the name of an annual ski mountaineering competition organized by the German Alpine Association (DAV) . The name of the race goes back to the times before and after the Second World War , when skiers came in droves, often by special train from Munich to Mittenwald, and with their wooden slats on their shoulders in endless rows in the Dammkar des Karwendel as "Dammkarwurm" skiing history wrote.

The race was held for the first time in the late 1990s. Under the name "DIAMIR-Race" at the time, the unofficial German ski mountaineering championship was held on Dammkar before the DAV became a member of the ISMC .

The short distance ( DM rating) is about 900 meters in altitude , the long (Cup classification) over 1300 meters. There are several carrying passages, one of which has an incline of 40 degrees in places.

The daily ranking is included as the second race in the overall ranking of the German Ski Touring Cup .

The German Vertical Race Championship also took place in Dammkar in 2008 as a one-day event.
