Vertical race

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The English term vertical race means " vertical race" and is the official name for a competitive discipline in ski touring .

General

In contrast to the typical competitions in ski mountaineering , the vertical race is a pure ascent race without ski descents, whereby the skis are also carried in the luggage during the mountain running and climbing passages. As with the international competitions of the ISMC , since 2007 a male and female German champion has been determined in the vertical race as part of the German championship .

Since the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA) is aiming to include the sport of ski mountaineering at the 2018 Olympic Games , it can be assumed that the vertical race could also be an Olympic discipline in the future.

Championships

The vertical race was rated as a discipline for the first time at the World Ski Mountaineering Championships in 2004 and at the European Ski Mountaineering Championships in 2005.
