Sébastien Epiney (born August 29, 1967 in Paris) from Nendaz is a former Swiss ski mountaineer , mountain and marathon runner . He was a member of the Swiss national ski mountaineering team .

Career

Epiney started ski mountaineering in 2001 and achieved third place and fourth place in the team discipline together with Jean-Yves Rey at the World Championships in the Vertical Race in Val d'Aran in 2004 . As a runner, he won the Matterhorn run on August 21, 2005 and the Swiss alpine skiing championship in the same year. At the World Ski Mountaineering Championships in 2006 , he secured fifth place in the Vertical Race and was fourth in the same discipline at the 2007 European Championships . At the 2007 Mountain Running World Championships in Ovronnaz, he won bronze in the group classification (with Andy Sutz , Alexis Gex-Fabry and David Schneider).

In 2008 he was Swiss champion and seventh at the world championship in the vertical race.

As a mountain runner, Epiney has already won several Swiss championship titles. He won the bronze medal at the 2009 European Mountain Running Championships. In 2010 he ended his career.

Epiney is the spa director of Gstaad Saanenland Tourismus
