World Ski Mountaineering Championships 2004
The second world championship in ski mountaineering 2004 was held from March 1st to 6th, 2004 in Val d'Aran , Spain . The organizer was the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ICSM) of the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA).
New disciplines added to the disciplines already offered at the 1st World Ski Mountaineering Championships in 2002 were a relay race and the vertical race .
procedure
After the opening on March 1st, the vertical race followed as the first competitive discipline on March 2nd . The team races were held on March 3rd, and after a day of rest for the athletes, the individual races followed on March 5th, 2008. The next day, also the last day of the World Cup, the senior relay competitions took place.

Vertical race
The ascent of the Vertical Race went over 950 meters in altitude. With a corresponding performance, participants in the “Espoirs” age group also fell into the senior rating.

The team competition took place on March 3, 2004. During the ascent and descent, +/- 2128 meters in altitude had to be mastered.

The individual race took place on March 5, 2004. The route had around +/- 1720 meters in altitude in four ascent and descent stages and around 20 km in length. With a corresponding result, participants in the “Espoirs” age group were also included in the senior rating.

The relay races, which were the first discipline of the world championship in ski mountaineering, were already held in teams of four for men, and with teams of three for women. Sometimes members of the “Espoirs” age group also ran in the teams.
