Scyphanthus is a plant kind from the family of loasaceae (Loasaceae). It contains one or two species thatare endemic to Chile .
description
They are climbing, annual herbaceous plants . Nettle hairs are missing, the roots are fibrous. The leaves are opposite, the leaf blades broadly ovate and double pinnate.
The inflorescences are terminal, strongly asymmetrical dichasias . In front of the individual flowers are two frondose bracts .
The petals are yellow. The outer staminodes are fused and form a nectar-excreting scale leaf, on the outer side of which there are three flag-shaped, white, red and yellow appendages.
The narrow cylindrical ovary is underneath and opens with elongated columns, the seeds are angular.

Scyphanthus is only found in Chile in Mediterranean bushland.
Systematics
Scyphanthus was first described in 1828 by David Don . The genus is classified in the subfamily Loasoideae , Tribe Loaseae , it is closely related to the genus Caiophora and the section Pinnatae of the genus Loasa . It is unclear whether it includes one or two types:
