World Ski Mountaineering Championship 2006

The III. World Ski Mountaineering Championship 2006 ( Italian Campionato del Mondo di Scialpinismo 2006 ) was held from February 27 to March 4, 2006 in the province of Cuneo , Italy . The organizer was the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ICSM) of the Union Internationale des Associations d'Alpinisme (UIAA). Ski mountaineers from the national team from a total of 33 nations took part.

procedure

The first competition after previous briefings on February 27th for the World Championship event was the Vertical Race on February 28th . One day later, on March 1st, the team race took place in teams of two. The single race for the age group of "seniors" had for 3 March in Artesina planned, but was canceled due to the weather; the “Juniors” race the day before could take place. The last competition was on March 4, 2006, the relay race of the four-man teams.

Vertical race

The Vertical Race was the first competitive discipline and was held on February 28, 2008 in Crissolo . The ascent race started at an altitude of 1365 m. A 4.7 km long route with a height difference of 1000 meters had to be mastered.

Ski mountaineering team

The team runs were held on March 1st, 2006 in Crissolo. The start was at an altitude of 1725 meters. On the 20.3 km long route, the difference in altitude for ascent and descent was a total of 2088 m each. The highest point on the route was 3019 m.

Ski mountaineering individual race (canceled)

In 2006 no individual race could be held due to the snow conditions; as a result, there was no combined evaluation in the III. World Championship. The individual race should run over a 17.1 km long route with an altitude difference of 1740 meters for the ascent and 1750 meters for the descent. The highest point of the planned route was at an altitude of 2,400 m.

Ski mountaineering relay

The relay races were held in Artesina on March 4th. The relay teams each consisted of four participants. The starting point of the 1.92 km long route was at an altitude of 1363 m. The ascent went up to a height of 1503 m with a subsequent difference in altitude of 140 meters.
