Matterhorn run
The Matterhorn run is a mountain run that has been taking place in Zermatt since 1982 (always in August since 1992).
Since 2000, the route led from the train station in Zermatt (1605 m above sea level) to Schwarzsee (2580 m above sea level) at the foot of the Matterhorn and was 14.35 km long. Since the hiking trail via Kalbermatten was closed in 2006 due to the risk of falling rocks, an alternative route of 12.49 km has since been used, which leads via Furi , Zmutt and the Staffel.
In 1991, instead of the Matterhorn run, the 7th IMCR Mountain Run World Cup was held from September 6th to 8th . World champions were Jairo Correa (COL) in the men's long course, John Lenihan (IRL) in the men's short course, Isabelle Guillot (FRA) in the women and Ulrich Seidel (GER) in the juniors. Keith Anderson (GBR) and Sally Goldsmith (GBR) won the open race.
