Damnation Plan is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Espoo that was formed in 2004.
history
The band was formed in 2004 by drummer Jarkko Lunnas and guitarist Kalle Niininen. A short time later, bassist Tony Thamm and singer Sami Honkonen joined the cast. Their first EP called Darker World was self-produced and was self-released in 2007. After about a dozen gigs in the Helsinki area, Antti Lauri joined the line-up as another guitarist. The band then worked on new songs, while bassist Thamm and singer Honkonen left the band. In 2011 the writing process for the album The Wakening was finished, so the recording began. The guttural vocals were taken over by Tommy Tuovinen, while Asim Searah was used for the clear vocals. Bassist Jukka Vehkamaa and keyboardist Jussi Kulomaa were also represented as new members in the band. The album was mixed by Dan Swanö in the Unisound studio . The album was released on Coroner Records in March 2013 .
style
The band received some good and some bad reviews for their debut. The songs almost squinted towards Metalcore and the “low-aggression framework can hardly be described as Melodic Death Metal”. The clear vocals are "colorless" and "on the level of a hardly mediocre southern European power metal band ", while the guttural singing is described as "slack nagging". On the other hand, the combination of clear and guttural singing is emphasized as positive; in this context, comparisons with Scar Symmetry are made . Playing the drums is also rated positively, with the use of double bass being characteristic. Songs like Blindsighted are also reminiscent of more recent works by Soilwork .
