Chief Dan George (born July 24, 1899 , † September 23, 1981 in Vancouver ) was an actor and chief of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation on Burrard Inlet in British Columbia (Canada).

After attending school, he earned his living by changing professions, such as dockworker, school bus driver or construction worker, before he got his first roles on television from the late 1960s. He celebrated his breakthrough with the supporting role of Chief Old Lodge Skins in Arthur Penn's wild west film Little Big Man (1970). For his second feature film, Chief Dan George won critical acclaim and prizes from the New York Film Critics Circle , the National Society of Film Critics and the Laurel Award , while at the Golden Globe and Academy Awards, respectively, he met John Mills ( Ryan's daughter ) lost out. Although he was active as an actor until his death in 1981, he could no longer build on his initial success.

In addition to his acting career, Chief Dan George has also worked as a writer and has published various books, including My Heart Soars , My Spirit Soars, and You Call Me Chief: Impressions of the Life of Chief Dan George .
