Pension Kæte Dan in Tel Aviv, 1933

history

In June 1947, the two brothers Yekutiel and Shmuel Federmann, who came from Chemnitz, leased the Pension Kaete Dans (née Käthe Danielewicz; 1890–1978), which the Berliner-born had in 1933 with 21 rooms in a new building designed by Lotte Cohn above the beach in Tel Aviv had opened. Despite being called a guesthouse, it was the first hotel in town that was really geared towards beach guests, and it was very modern. Therefore it was the meeting point of many guests of high standing, u. a. Chaim Arlosoroff and Dan's brother-in-law Pinchas Rosen .

In addition to the older building from 1933, the Federmann family had the Hotel Dan Tel Aviv built in 1950–1953 , with which they founded the city's first luxury hotel. In 1956, the Federmanns acquired both the older building and the rights to the well-established name. They had both buildings demolished and the building that still exists today, but redesigned with a new facade in 1986, was erected in their place by 1964. In 1957 the Federmanns bought the King David Hotel in Jerusalem . A year later they bought the Dan Accadia in Herzlia , the Dan Carmel in Haifa in 1960 and the Dan Caesarea in 1971. Despite economic problems, two more houses were opened in the 1980s: the Dan Panorama Tel Aviv and the Dan Panorama in Haifa . In 1994, the 82 m high Migdal haMelech David ( Hebrew) opened on the property to the south of the headquarters in Tel Aviv מגדל המלך דוד, English King David Tower ).

In 1995 the Dan Eilat opened , followed by the Dan Panorama Jerusalem , the Dan Gardens Ashkelon and the Dan Panorama Eilat . In 2000 the chain acquired the Dvir Hotel in Haifa, renovated it extensively and opened it under the new name Dan Gardens Haifa . In 2007 the Ariel Hotel in Jerusalem was acquired, also renovated and opened as the Dan Boutique . The Hyatt Regency in Jerusalem was also purchased and reopened as Dan Jerusalem .

In 2008, the company began planning its first hotel outside Israel in Bangalore, India . It was opened in 2011, but has since been sold again.

The chain runs an academy for chefs, apartments in Migdal haMelech David in Tel Aviv and shares in the Panorama Shopping Mall in Haifa, which is also operated by the chain.
