Dan McCafferty (born October 14, 1946 in Dunfermline , Scotland ) is a Scottish singer and founding member of the hard rock band Nazareth .

biography

In 1975 he took with members a. a. by Deep Purple and the Sensational Alex Harvey Band , a solo album under his own name, on which he published his favorite songs of various bands and musicians. Over ten years later he decided to do a solo project again. On the '87 LP Into the Ring , he occupied the B-side with an English version of the song Neuland Suite by the German rock singer Hans Hartz , which he had written around two years earlier as the title song for the ARD production of the same name.

After Ian Gillan left Deep Purple, McCafferty was traded as his successor in 1973. In an interview on May 6, 2010, he stated that he was not seriously asked by Deep Purple.

In September 2013, Dan McCafferty announced that he could no longer go on tour with Nazareth for health reasons . For the album "Rock'n'Roll Telephone", which was released in spring 2014, he still sang all the vocal tracks. In an interview, McCafferty stated that he could envision doing more studio recordings, but thought live shows of an hour and a half were unlikely. In 2015 he was replaced by Welsh rock singer Carl Sentance .

His down-to-earth attitude is remarkable. Even when his band was platinum, McCafferty always sought to be close to the fans. In interviews, he often maintained a chummy and familiar style with the journalists.
