Hair of the Dog is the sixth studio album by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth .

album

The LP was founded in 1975 in the Escape Studios in English Kent picked up and first of Nazareth guitarist Manny Charlton produced, the resulting bass player of Deep Purple , Roger Glover , replaced from producer items. "Hair of the Dog" went platinum in the US for over 2 million units sold and became Nazareth's most successful album there. At first the work was supposed to be called "Son of a Bitch", but the record company refused to release it under such an offensive title. Nevertheless, the line "Now you're messing with a Son of a Bitch" from the song "Hair of the Dog" became the most famous of the band and the slogan on numerous shirts. The artwork is by Dave Roe: a three-headed hellhound rises from the sea, and around it numerous skulls peek out of the water. The influence on later heavy metal albums is certainly undeniable.

Singles

The ballad "Love Hurts" , the band's most commercially successful single, landed on the US version of "Hair of the Dog". In Europe, another ballad, "Guilty", was put in this place instead. "Love Hurts" was only released as a single here. Otherwise there were no further decoupling. However, two singles independent of the album, "Holy Roller" and "My White Bicycle", were also released in 1975. These then appeared in the 90s as bonus songs on the remastered CD of "Hair of the Dog".

Style and influence

On Hair of the Dog , the blues rock of the previous records took a back seat and only shimmers a little here and there, for example in the title track and in Whiskey Drinkin 'Woman . Heavy rock is the essence of this release. One of the cornerstones of heavy metal lies here. Numbers like Miss Misery , Changin 'Times and Beggar's Day prove this thesis.

Hair of the Dog is Nazareth's most frequently covered song. Guns n 'Roses are just one example. Also Britny Fox and Warrant have already spent itself in it and many others. In 2007 the band Kid Ego recorded a cover with the authors Nazareth in the background. The proceeds from the single will benefit a clinic for children with cancer.

In 2014, the album was ranked 98 on the list the 100 best metal and hard rock albums of all time of Rolling Stone .

Trivia
