Manny Charlton (born July 25, 1941 in La Línea de la Concepción , Spain ; actually Manuel Charlton ) is a founding member and former guitarist of the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth from 1968 to 1990. Today he occasionally produces new bands .

Charlton and Nazareth

Before joining Nazareth from Dunfermline , then known as The Shadettes, Charlton played in a number of bands such as Mark 5 and Red Hawks. In 1968 this band changed their name to Nazareth and became Charlton's musical home for the next two decades. Charlton was instrumental in driving Nazareth's career and is responsible for the band's greatest successes in every respect. His striking guitar playing complemented himself perfectly with the rough and aggressive grating voice of Dan McCafferty . Especially on the early Nazareth albums he emerged as one of the most talented slide guitarists , from which primarily the first hits "Bad Bad Boy" and "Broken Down Angel" from the LP Razamanaz from the, which was primarily successful in Europe, benefited 1973. Charlton was a long-time producer of Nazareth after parting ways with longtime producer Roger Glover . Hair of the Dog was Charlton's first production work in 1975 and Dan McCafferty's first self-titled solo album that same year.

Separation from Nazareth and solo paths

After leaving Nazareth in 1990, Charlton played a few solo gigs on the Scottish nightclub scene. On the side he produced one or the other new band, e.g. B. also Jingo de Lunch . In 1997 he released his first solo album Drool on the Red Steel label . The following year he moved to Texas and formed the Manny Charlton Band , or MCB for short. Albums like Stonkin and Klone This appeared . Then Charlton focused again on pure solo plans and released in 2004 under his name Say The Word on the Scottish label River Records. The successor Sharp in 2005 was primarily an album with cover versions in the style of the Dan McCafferty solo disc from 1975. Tim Hardin's Hang On To A Dream and Bob Dylan's Shelter From The Storm were represented. Sharp Re-Loaded followed in the same year . In the spring of 2006, Manny Charlton joined the Swedish rock band From Behind , in which Nicky Moore, former singer of Samson , was also active. The From Behind debut was called Game Over . In 2007, however, Charlton split from From Behind and released another solo album, Americana Deluxe , which included a cover of Fleetwood Mac , namely Tusk .

At the end of 2007, Charlton and three American musicians founded the band Nazareth with Manny Charlton , which has nothing to do with his former band Nazareth. This has now had her name legally protected and is taking action with her lawyers against Manny Charlton and the abuse of her name.

Doom / Blood on the Walls

In 1995 Charlton sent a tape to id Software , creators of the famous video game Doom . It included an as yet untitled song for use in the game, which John Romero named "Blood on the Walls" and later made available for download from his website. Charlton provided his broadcast with the words "For all the guys and gals at ID (sic) who came up with the coolest game this side of hell, kick some demon butt to this !!"
