The Newz is the 21st studio album by the Scottish hard rock band Nazareth . It was published on March 31, 2008 on the German label Edel SE . Since this is the first studio album in almost ten years, it is often referred to as a comeback album.
history
After the album Boogaloo was released in 1998, drummer and founding member Darrell Sweet died during the tour on April 30, 1999 at the age of 51 of a heart attack before a concert. He was replaced by Pete Agnew's son Lee. Nevertheless it became very quiet around the band. Only 3 live albums were released in the next few years ( Homecoming 2002, Alive & Kicking 2003 and Live in Brazil 2007), the fans waited in vain for new studio material. The album was the first album that was released by the Edel record company . The band released their last studio album on SPV , some other releases on Eagle Records . It was also a premiere for producer Yann Roullier, because the previous album was produced by Mike Ging . The occasion for the release of the album was the 40th anniversary of the band. The recordings for this were completed in December 2007.

Content and melody of the songs
It contains soulful songs like Gloria , Dying Breed or Enough Love and hard rock pieces like Liar , Keep on Traveling and The Gathering. According to Dan McCafferty, Warning is about reality programs on television and the ballad Gloria is about criminal youths Examples from the lives of old friends of the band. The song Liar is a heavy metal- oriented song that is directed against George W. Bush and prophesies his failure. The Gathering is a long and dark title against war and genocide. The album was presented live as part of a world tour. The tour started on January 25, 2008 in Sweden.
