biography

The trained mechanical engineer was elected to the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia in October 1986 as a member of the Prince Rupert constituency. In the cabinets of Prime Ministers Michael Harcourt and Glen Clark , he led several key ministries such as forestry, education, labor and energy. In 1992 Harcourt appointed him vice premier.

On August 25, 1999, Glen Clark unexpectedly resigned as Prime Minister after he was charged with criminal acts in connection with the apparently suspicious granting of a casino license. The NDP held an express party conference and elected Miller as interim party chairman. He headed the affairs of state for six months and on February 24, 2000, the office of prime minister was transferred to Ujjal Dosanjh , who had been elected chairman by a party convention.

Miller soon retired from politics. Since then he has worked in the management of various pipeline and forestry companies. In 2005 the provincial government hired him as a consultant for the development of oil and gas rigs.
