Danger Point (South Africa)

Danger Point is a rocky peninsula in southwest South Africa , about halfway between the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Agulhas near the fishing village of Gansbaai .

In the early morning hours of February 26, 1852 , the British troop transport HMS Birkenhead ran onto a rock not shown in the nautical charts in front of Danger Point and sank.

On August 30, 1881, the British passenger liner RMS Teuton collided with an underwater rock near Danger Point and sank while attempting to reach the port city of Simon's Town . 236 passengers and crew members died.
