Daniel Augusto da Cunha Faria (born April 10, 1971 in Baltar , Paredes ; † June 9, 1999 in the Singeverga monastery near Porto ) was a Portuguese poet and Catholic theologian. His work made him one of the most famous poets of his generation in Portugal and one of the most important poets in Portugal at the end of the 20th century. In addition, he is considered an important representative of modern Catholic poetry in Portugal.

Life

Even as a child he is said to have distinguished himself through great piety and to have wanted to become a priest from an early age. He attended various Catholic seminaries and finished his theology studies in 1998. At the same time he studied literature in Porto from 1994 to 1998.

Since he had started to write at an early age, he had published various poems in magazines until his death and had also won several prizes. In 1997 he entered the monastery of São Benedicto in Vitoria as a novice before moving to the Singeverga monastery near Porto in 1998. He died there on June 9, 1999 after an accident.

The Daniel Faria Literature Prize advertised for young people is named after him. His work has not yet been translated into German. His work has mystical-romantic traits and is comparable to the work of Teixeira de Pascoaes . Meanwhile, a school in Baltar also bears the name of the poet: Escola Secundaria Daniel Faria de Baltar.

In 2020, an 11-minute commercial was shot for the city of Paredes, mainly about Daniel Faria.
