Daniel Florence O'Leary (* 1801 in Cork ; † February 24, 1854 in Santa Fé de Bogotá ) was an Irish general and British diplomat in Colombia .

Life

Daniel Florence O'Leary was an Irish general who took part in the South American Wars of Independence . He was the orderly officer of Simón Bolívar . He won the esteem of Bolivar and played a key role in its military and political strategy. In September 1829, José María Córdova defected. Bolivar sent O'Leary with a force to Antioquia. Cordova was fatally wounded in the battle of El Santurario on October 17, 1829.

O'Leary's autobiography sheds light on the War of Independence in South America. He died in Colombia and was transferred by the Venezuelan government to Caracas , where he was buried in a pantheon.
