Daniel Memmert

Daniel Memmert (* 1971 in Nuremberg ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Memmert studied sport and mathematics for teaching in Konstanz and Heidelberg. After the second state examination, from 1999 he worked as a research assistant and later as an academic adviser at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , while he also worked as a sport teacher at the Leonardo-da-Vinci-Gymnasium in Neckargemünd .

In 2003 he received his doctorate , his thesis "A task-oriented approach to the analysis of cognitions in sports games" was awarded third place at the award ceremony of the German Association for Sports Science 2003. In 2008 he completed his habilitation (subject: “Creativity in Sports Games”), which was awarded third place at the DOSB Science Prize.

In 2017, Memmert took up the position as managing director of the Institute for Training Science and Sports Informatics at the German Sport University Cologne . From 2009 to 2016 he was head of the institute for cognitive and sport game research at the German Sport University Cologne. In 2014 he was visiting professor at the University of Vienna.

From 2009 to 2013 Memmert was the managing director of the Working Group for Sport Psychology, and in 2009 he became deputy spokesman for the Sports Games Commission at the German Association for Sport Science. From 2012 to 2017 he was editor of the magazine for sports science (behavioral science ). From 2016 to 2017 he was co-editor for the psychology section of Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport . Since 2017 he has been co-editor of the magazine for sport psychology .

His research focuses on sports games research, in the sports psychological fields of attention and motivation, in movement science (cognition and motor skills), in aspects of child and youth research, in sports informatics (especially pattern recognition and simulation), in evaluation research and in research methodology.

He acquired several projects of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in the field of computer science and psychology, whereby the project "Interactive and intelligent systems, image and language processing, computer graphics and visualization" was funded from 2008 to 2018. He holds coaching licenses in soccer, tennis, snowboarding and alpine skiing and is the editor and author of textbooks on modern soccer training. He is the course director of the master’s course "Game Analysis" at the DSHS Cologne, which was introduced in the 2015/16 winter semester.

Memmert published, among other things, the books "Optimales Taktiktraining im Leistungsfußball" and "Revolution im Profifußball" (together with Dominik Raabe) and took over the management of research projects in the field of professional football, including those of the German Football League (DFL) and the German Football Association The federal government (DFB) supported research projects "Comprehensive analysis of the situation regarding the use of position data as well as an exemplary performance analysis of German professional football", and "Longitudinal evaluation of referee performance in game-relevant scenes and creation of an evaluation tool to continue this analysis".

In addition to his academic work, Memmert works as a speaker and consultant for companies and executives.
