Daniel Schwemer

Daniel Schwemer (born January 26, 1970 in Tübingen ) is a German ancient orientalist .

Life

From 1991 to 1996 he studied ancient oriental studies and theology at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and (as a guest) at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg . He received his doctorate in 2000 and his habilitation in 2005 at the University of Würzburg. In 2000 he represented Andrew R. George at the School of Oriental and African Studies . From 2000 to 2004 he was a research assistant at the Chair of Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Würzburg. From 2004 to 2005 he represented Stefan Maul on the chair for Assyriology at Heidelberg University. From 2005 to 2008 he taught as a lecturer in Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies and from 2008 to 2011 as a reader in Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the School of Oriental & African Studies. From 2010 to 2011 he was Associate Dean there. Since 2011 he has been Professor of Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Würzburg and Research Associate at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

His main research interests are Akkadian studies, Hittitology , ancient oriental religious history, ancient oriental magic and medicine and rituals.
