Stefan Maul

Stefan Mario Maul (born December 24, 1958 in Aachen ) is a German ancient orientalist and recipient of the Leibniz Prize .

Life

Stefan Maul studied Assyriology , Near Eastern Archeology and Egyptology at the University of Göttingen , where he received his doctorate in 1987 under Rykle Borger . From 1987 to 1992 he worked as a research assistant and until 1995 as an assistant at the Free University of Berlin , where he completed his habilitation in 1993. Since 1995 he has been full professor for Assyriology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Since 2004 Maul has headed the research center of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences “Edition of literary cuneiform texts from Assur”.

He has also been a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Orient Society since 1994, a corresponding member since 1995 and a member of the central management of the German Archaeological Institute since 2001 . In 1997 he was awarded the Leibniz Prize for his research. In 1998 he was elected a full member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences , 2003 a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and 2012 a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
