Daniela Georgiana Dumitru (born July 25, 1987 in Ploieşti ) is a former Romanian speed skater .

Dumitru began her speed skating career as a child and quickly rose to the top of the Romanian top - which is poorly represented by international standards. At the age of 15 she already won the bronze medal at the Romanian all-around championship, in which she was the youngest of the six participants. In early 2003 she took part in the Junior World Championships in Yanagimachi, Japan, where she placed 31st in the back quarter of the rankings. With her good results at national level, Dumitru received a place in the three-man World Cup squad of the Romanian national team from the 2003/04 season . After she was only allowed to start in the B group in the winters from 2003 to 2005 and therefore had no chance of winning World Cup points, she finished ninth over 1000 meters in Inzell in mid-December 2005 . With this exceptionally good result - the Romanian had never been among the top 30 in the World Cup before - Dumitru also benefited from the fact that participation in the competitions in Inzell was very low. A large part of the world's elite, including all Asian and North American starters, skipped the races, so that instead of the usual 50 athletes, only 18 runners took part in the 1000-meter competition.

In the following seasons Dumitru started again in individual races in the B group, but at least with the team he was able to reach the top ten several times. The best result in this discipline was a sixth place, which Dumitru and her teammates Daniela Oltean and Andreea Lăzărescu achieved in February 2008 in Baselga di Piné . In 2010 Dumitru was the first Romanian all-around champion. Otherwise, the years after 2005 were not very successful for the Romanian: Participation in World and European Championships each ended with a placement in the lower third of the ranking, in 2010 she finished last at the Sprint World Championships . Since the Romanian team did not qualify for the 2010 Winter Olympics, Dumitru could not start there. She ended her career thereupon.
