Danielius Dolskis

Danielius Dolskis (born April 13, 1891 in Vilnius , † December 3, 1931 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian singer and stage artist.

Dolskis began his career in St. Petersburg , but after the October Revolution he moved to Riga , Latvia , where he sang in Oscar Strok's orchestra . In 1929 Dolskis moved to Kaunas, Lithuania , where he performed in several restaurants and quickly gained national fame. He quickly learned the Lithuanian language and was singing in Lithuanian after only six months. However, just two years after his arrival, Dolskis died of pneumonia . His grave is in the Jewish cemetery in the Kaunass district of Žaliakalnis .

Recordings by Danielius Dolskis exist from the years 1929 and 1931. His most famous songs include Kariškas vaizdelis (“Warrior Sight”), Gegužinė (“Excursion”), Lietuvaitė (“Young Lithuanian”) and Onytė, einam su manim pašokti (“Onytė , come Dance With Me").

On November 10, 2007, a monument for Dolskis was erected in the Kaunasser Center. It's on Laisvės alėja in front of the “Metropolis” restaurant, where Dolskis performed during his lifetime.
