Danilo Terenzi

Danilo Terenzi (born March 2, 1956 in Rome , † May 4, 1995 ) was an Italian trombonist and composer of modern jazz .

Life

Terenzi first learned to play the guitar. Between 1969 and 1975 he studied trombone at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia ; from 1977 he worked there with composition. In 1973 he began his career as a professional musician. He founded a quartet with Massimo Urbani , played with Giorgio Gaslini and in the Living Concert Big Band of Tommaso Vittorini . He has also worked with Enrico Rava , Steve Lacy , Archie Shepp , Roswell Rudd , Paul Rutherford , Albert Mangelsdorff , Phil Woods and JF Jenny-Clark .

Terenzi performed at many major festivals in Italy and other European countries and toured Central Europe, Great Britain, France and Yugoslavia. He also worked several times with Mike Westbrook and Chris Biscoe . In 1990 he worked in a trio with Wolfgang Reisinger and Wolfgang Mitterer ; in 1991 he was a member of the Orchestra Nazionale del Jazz Italiano . Then he belonged to the Vienna Art Orchestra . His compositions include Trees on the Sea , Nana and Amantide .

Westbrook dedicated the piece Blues for Terenzi to the trombonist .
