Danleigh Borman (born January 27, 1985 in Cape Town ) is a South African football player on the position of midfielder . He currently plays for Toronto FC in the top division of North American football, Major League Soccer (MLS).
Career
Club career
Borman began his active career as a football player in his home near Santos Cape Town . He later came to the United States , where he studied at the University of Rhode Island from 2004 to 2007 and served on the university's soccer team. During his time on the university soccer team, Borman scored seven goals in 83 games and came up with 16 assists . In his first year on the team, he was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year . In 2006 he was awarded the title of Atlantic 10 Championship Most Outstanding Player for his exceptional achievements in the Atlantic 10 championship game and 2-0 success against the team from Saint Louis University . In his senior year at the University of Rhode Island, Borman made a record of one goal and seven assists. While still a student, he played in the 2006/07 season for the Rhode Island Stingrays in the fourth-rate USL Premier Development League . For the Stingrays , he had seven hits in 20 games. He also managed a hat trick in the 6-0 win over Vermont Voltage on July 2, 2006 . At the MLS Supplemental Draft 2008 Borman was drafted as the 7th pick to the New York Red Bulls , where he made his professional debut in Major League Soccer on April 5, 2008 . Borman played against the Columbus crew in one half . He scored his first goal for the Red Bulls on May 10, 2008 in the 21st minute of the game.
On April 1, he moved with his teammate Tony Tchani from the Red Bulls to Toronto FC. The New Yorkers received Dwayne De Rosario for it . A day later he made his debut for the Canadians.
International
Borman already gained experience in the U-19 selection of his home country. At the age of 17 he was appointed to the U-19 squad in 2002 and was active there until the beginning of 2004.
