Daniel Jerome Cipriani (born November 2, 1987 in London ) is an English rugby union player . He plays as a connector or goalkeeper for the England team and the London Wasps . He is considered to be one of the country's greatest talents.

Career

Cipriani began playing rugby at the age of nine. With the U19 national team of England he was able to win the world title twice. In 2003 he was accepted into the Wasps Academy, where he stayed until the 2006/07 season. When he finished school he was also able to play in the Guinness Premiership . In January 2007 he was in the club's starting line-up for the first time and was named player of the game after an attempt against the Worcester Warriors . Since these performances he has been under great scrutiny in England, as the actually set connector Jonny Wilkinson is rarely operational after numerous injuries.

Cipriani ended 2007 by winning the Heineken Cup and the Churchill Cup . In the following he was part of the training squad leading up to the World Cup . Ultimately, his national team debut only followed at the Six Nations in 2008 when he was substituted on in the game against Wales . In the further course of the tournament he also made his first appearance in the starting lineup. In the game against Ireland he replaced Wilkinson, who had to sit on the bench for the first time in years.

Due to a serious ankle injury he sustained in the semi-finals of the English championship, Cipriani fell out for almost five months and was only able to play for his club again in October 2008. At the November international games he was part of the regular formation in three of four games. In a game against the Northampton Saints in October 2009, he pulled a hairline tear in his fibula and was out for two months. In February 2010, the Wasps announced that Cipriani would leave the club at the end of the season. Since 2011 he has been playing for the Melbourne Rebels , a newly formed Australian franchise team in the expanded Super 14 . On February 25, 2011 he scored the first points of his newly formed team in the game against the Canberra Brumbies and also contributed significantly to the team from Melbourne's first victory with a converted penalty kick in the last minute of the game .

From September 2008 to June 2010, Cipriani had a high profile relationship with actress Kelly Brook .
