Darius (Pontus)

Darius of Pontus (Latinized Darius of Pontus ) lived in the first century BC and was prince of the kingdom of Pontus and its king from 39 to 37 BC. He was a monarch with Iranian, Greek and Macedonian roots.

Dareios was the first child of King Pharnakes II and his Sarmatian wife. He had two younger siblings: a sister named Dynamis and a brother named Arsakes. His paternal grandparents were the Pontic ruler Mithridates VI. and his first wife, his sister Laodike . Darius was born and raised in Pontus and the Bosporan Empire .

According to the Greek historian Strabo , Darius was guarded by a rebel commander by the name of Arsakes for a period of time while he held a fortress that was besieged by Polemon and Lykomedes of Komana.

Darius was born from the triumvir Marcus Antonius 39 BC. Used as ruler over Pontus. His reign as king was short, as he was already 37 BC. BC died. He was followed by his brother Arsakes, whose reign was even shorter, and he may have died in the same year. He was succeeded by Polemon.
