action

This documentary is the first part of a three-dimensional computer-animated film trilogy that gives a detailed overview of the architecture and construction work in Berlin's government district between 1932 and 1945. In this way, through clever transitions, structural changes are shown and spatial connections are conveyed in a way that would not be possible with a mere traditional photo study.

The following streets are shown in the film:

  • Vossstrasse
  • Wilhelmstrasse
  • Wilhelmplatz

In addition, the following buildings in the three streets / squares are given special attention:

  • Old Reich Chancellery
  • Borsig Palace
  • Hotel Kaiserhof
  • Ministry of Propaganda
  • Entrance to the underground station
  • and a few more

Soundtrack

The music for the film was composed and recorded by Lorraine Shannon and Robert Schöder. Both are members of SAMRO, the South African Music Rights Organization. The music is primarily piano music, which is accompanied by numerous strings.

Reviews

  • "Since the accompanying text on the DVD is just as well researched as the almost perfect computer simulation, this project is an important addition to the various, sometimes very good books about the government district. The three-dimensional simulation gives an impression of Berlin better than any photo and even any documentary Prestigious address before the devastation of World War II. " - Die Welt on May 27, 2005
  • "... nothing is more impressive than such views as the film offers. This is valuable work not only for nostalgic people. Everyone in this film raves about the gigantic, ornate and monumental government buildings from the 19th century who are hardly aware of anything today. " - PSM
  • "Every stucco and every window sill was reproduced true to the original, even the street lamps and an advertising column with posters." - Berliner Kurier May 29, 2005
