The NRW Duell was a German quiz show broadcast on WDR television since 2006 . It last ran on June 5, 2016 with the 10th anniversary edition and was then discontinued.

General

The NRW duel was editorially supervised by Katja Banse and moderated by Bernd Stelter . It was broadcast regularly on Mondays at 9:05 p.m. on WDR television, until 2015 on Wednesdays at 8:15 p.m. The program was produced by Sony Pictures Film und Fernseh Produktions GmbH in the WDR studios in Cologne-Bocklemünd . The program was recorded on a staggered basis, with two programs often being produced a day. The profit made on the show was donated to an aid organization by the victorious celebrity .

Gameplay

Two candidates competed against each other. The questions to the candidates contained three possible answers and the candidate received one point for a correct answer. If he gave a wrong answer, the opponent received one point. The first to reach six points wins the round. The winner of this round competed in a final against the winner from the other round.

The NRW duel not only consisted of questions, but also of interactive games in which the candidates had to solve puzzles , guess music titles or assign pictures . There was usually one point for a game that was won, as for a correctly answered question. Many questions were regionally limited to NRW, but not all.

NRW Duel Extra

Under the title NRW Duell Extra , a total of 31 special editions were broadcast from 2008 to 2014, with mostly prominent guests. These editions each had a special motto. In the first broadcast on March 24, 2008, the presenters of the magazine competed against each other on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the current hour . In summer 2008, nine issues followed as a summer quiz, and in early 2009 three carnival programs. In 2010 a show on the subject of " RUHR.2010 - European Capital of Culture " was produced. From 2010 to 2014 there was a Christmas special every year - in 2011 and 2012 there was also a summer and an autumn special, as well as a spring show in 2012 and 2014. In April 2011 Bernd Stelter's 50th birthday was celebrated. In 2012, Guido Cantz introduced Bernd Stelter to the show Do you understand fun? tricked. Other special editions in 2013 were Extra for Social Commitment and The Big Extra to Start School , and in 2014 another carnival edition and The Big WDR Big Band Special .

Most of the special editions were broadcast on the usual slot on Wednesday, but mostly had twice the broadcast time.
