The Datenberg is a wooded mountain in the area of the Bad Tabarz municipality, Cabarz district in the Gotha district .
The data mountain has a summit height of 641.3 m above sea level. HN and rises about 200 meters above the foreland in the western part of the Thuringian Forest .
On the flanks of the Datenberg there are the Mühlgrund and the Lauchagrund , two gorge valleys that enabled the medieval old roads to climb relatively easily to the top of the pass on the Kleiner Inselsberg. Hidden behind a mountain ledge was the Leuchtenburg and its upstream control room, the Stolzenburg - most recently two notorious robber barons' castles. Today only documents and descriptions from the 19th century testify to its existence; the area in question has been used since the 1950s to mine porphyry, which is mainly used as road gravel. There are several sights around the mountain and a dense network of hiking and walking trails. A rhododendron park was created on the northern slope by the Tabarz citizens . It is located next to the Tabarz winter sports center with the ski jumping facility. In the upper part of the mountain slope there is a downhill route for cyclists. In the Lauchagrund there are several excursion restaurants that mark the ascent to the Rennsteig.
