History and description

The Datterich fountain stood on Luisenplatz in front of the north entrance of the Luisencenter from 1982 to 1996 . Today the fountain stands as a dry plastic - without a fountain function - in front of the north entrance ( old town entrance ) of the city library .

The bronze fountain sculpture was designed by the Aachen sculptor Bonifatius Stirnberg . It consists of movable bronze figures that stand on a movable metal wheel and were modeled on the main characters of the literary work Datterich .

Originally there was a metal helix in the middle of the sculpture , which was replaced by a bronze stage curtain by Stirnberg .

The moving figures were not moved by water power. The figures could or can be moved manually by the audience. The fountain monument is a popular photo opportunity.
