The lake Dauphin Lake was in 1739 by François de La Vérendrye named after the French throne.

It is located in western Manitoba , Canada, near the city of Dauphin . The lake has an area of 519 km². It has a catchment area of 8,417.5 km² and is drained by the Mossy River to Lake Winnipegosis , 20 km to the north .

Several attempts have been made in the last century to regulate the lake's water level. In 1964, the Mossey River Dam was built near Terin's Landing at the outflow of the lake . The traffic jam target in the summer months is 260.54 m. The dam can restrict flow during dry spells and low water levels. At high water levels, however, the regulating function does not apply and the flow capacity of the river takes control. The lake offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Fishing is popular all year round. There are camping facilities along the lakefront as well as a number of cottages .
