Dave Jones (clarinetist)
Dave Jones (born February 22, 1932 in Ilminster ; † 1998 ) was a British jazz musician ( clarinet , also baritone saxophone ).
Jones worked with Charlie Galbraith's band in the 1950s, joining Kenny Ball's band in 1959 . Starting with “I Love You Samantha”, he could be heard on all of Ball's hits and quickly gained international recognition. Since 1965 he worked as a freelance musician, played with the Kinks ( Everybody's in Show-Biz ) and with Galbraith, Mike Cotton, Pat Mason and Bill Nile, and occasionally with Acker Bilk . He later appeared in Ron Russell's band and then with Laurie Chescoe.
Digby Fairweather , who worked with him in the 1970s, emphasizes his "fruity, rich tone" in addition to his timing and technique.
