David Arnold (historian)

David John Arnold (born October 1, 1946 ) is a British historian . He deals with the history of South Asia, especially India.

Arnold graduated from the University of Sussex with a bachelor's degree in 1968 and his PhD in 1973. He was Professor of South Asian History at the School of African and Oriental Studies at the University of London . From 2006 he was Professor of Asian History and Global History at the University of Warwick , where he is now Professor Emeritus. From 2007 to 2010 he was an ESRC professor there.

He dealt with colonial India, from independence movements to health care history and the history of science and technology. He wrote a biography of Gandhi .

He is a Fellow of the British Academy and the Royal Asiatic Society . In 2015 he was elected to the Academia Europaea .
