from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Bushnell (born August 30, 1740 in Saybrook , Colony of Connecticut , † 1824 in Warrenton , Georgia ) was an American inventor at the time of the American War of Liberation .

He is considered to be the inventor of the first real submarine , the turtle , as the turtle was driven by two screws operated by hand cranks and not, as with all predecessors, a sail or oarsman on the surface of the water drove the vehicle. In addition, the Turtle was also the first submarine to be used in the course of a war.
