David Campbell (composer)

David Campbell (* 1959 ) is a Canadian composer, arranger and guitarist.

Campbell began playing the guitar at the age of fifteen. Around the same time he began composing his first symphony. In 1979 he went to Vancouver, where he played guitar and bass in various bands. From 1983 to 1985 he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway . He then studied composition, arrangement, guitar and orchestration at Humber College for six years . His teachers were Ron Collier , Paul Read , Dave Stillwell , Clarke Anderson and Art Maiste and the guitarists Peter Harris , Tony Zorzi and Mark Crawford .

He then wrote arrangements for various bands in Toronto and composed for television. From 2003 he turned increasingly to electro-acoustic live performances and improvised music on the guitar. In addition, he worked steadily on the composition of symphonic and chamber music works. The Canada Council commissioned him to compose two symphonies, three string quartets and a number of smaller works.
