David Dimitri (* 7. March 1963 as David Mueller in Zurich ) is a Swiss acrobat .

Life

David Dimitri comes from a family of artists, his father was the clown Dimitri (1935-2016). He received his training at the Budapest Circus School and the Juilliard School in New York. In 1970 Dimitri first appeared at Circus Knie . From 1981 to 1999 he worked in the Big Apple Circus in New York. In 1983 he starred in the Hollywood film Annie (directed by John Huston ). In 1987 he appeared at the Metropolitan Opera New York with his tightrope performance in the Opera Manon, conducted by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle. From 1988 to 1989 further appearances in Circus Knie followed. In 1989 he was also the Artistic Director of the Circus Museum Baraboo in Wisconsin. In 1992 the artist took on a leading role at Cirque du Soleil and co-designed the Mystère show . Between 1993 and 1999 he worked as a circus consultant at Bayerischer Rundfunk . In 1998 he promoted the Disney film The Hunchback of Notre Dame . In 2005 he crossed the Frankfurt soccer stadium on the high wire as part of the Confederations Cup . In 2006, David Dimitri created together with his sisters Masha and Nina, and his father Clown Dimitri the notion La Famiglia Dimitri . In 2009, La Famiglia Dimitri was played at the New Victory Theater on Broadway for 6 weeks . In 2006, David Dimitri's first solo program L'homme cirque premiered at the Avignon Festival . L'homme cirque takes place in its own circus tent designed for this performance and has been played in more than 130 cities worldwide. In autumn 2019 David Dimitri was appointed artistic director of the Salzburg Winter Festival .

David Dimitri is married to the journalist and television presenter Christine Maier , lives separately and has a daughter and a son. David Dimitri took over the presidency of the Fondazione Dimitri in 2016.
