David Hahn (composer)

David Hahn (* 1956 in Philadelphia ) is an American composer, guitarist and lutenist.

Hahn studied at Brown University until 1978, at the New England Conservatory of Music from 1980 to 1983 and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 1993 he received a PhD in music history from Stanford University . He has performed as a guitarist, lutenist and mandolin soloist with ensembles such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra , the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Opera Orchestra , the Seattle Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Musica Viva , and has taught at the New England Conservatory, where he co-founded the Boston Renaissance ensemble was. In 1995 he founded the ensemble ConneXions with musicians from the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb .

As an interpreter of early music, Hahn received the Noah Greenberg Award from the American Musicological Society . He has also received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts , the Soros Foundation , Seattle's Artist Trust, and the Jack Straw Foundation .
