Andrea von Ramm
Andrea von Ramm , also Andrea Ramm von Marnow or Andrea Ramm von Marnov (born September 8, 1928 in Pärnu , † November 30, 1999 in Munich ) was an Estonian mezzo-soprano . In concert life and in the studio, her subject area was on the one hand early music and contemporary music on the other.
life and work
Andrea von Ramm studied in Freiburg (Switzerland) , Munich and Milan . In addition to singing lessons, she studied music theory, composition and musicology.
Von Ramm founded the Ensemble Studio for New Music in Cologne . In 1960 she co-founded the Early Music Studio in Munich . In this ensemble she played with the instrumental musicians Thomas Binkley and Sterling Jones . These two musicians specialized in playing with original instruments from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque. Andrea von Ramm interpreted the vocal part as true to the original as possible. By adding a tenor voice, the spectrum of artistic expression was expanded. "One after the other, the tenors Nigel Rogers (1960–64), Williard Cobb (1964–70) and Richard Levitt (since 1970) took part in the ensemble, [...]." "Andrea von Ramm also played old instruments himself" such as organ Portativ , Krummhorn and Dulcian .
From 1972 to 1977 there was a fruitful artistic collaboration between the Studio of Early Music and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . In over 50 recordings, von Ramm published early vocal works by Guillaume de Machaut , Francesco Landini , Petrus Abelardus , Johannes Ciconia and Guillaume Dufay, among others . She published medieval Minnelieder at Christophorus-Verlag, a recording of Emilio de 'Cavalieri's Rappresentazione di Anima e di Corpo on the HMV label, and a recording of the alto solo in Mozart's coronation mass on the BASF label in the Birnau basilica Lake Constance.
"Andrea von Ramm also taught recitation and rhetoric at the University of Basel and music of the Middle Ages at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis ." She gave concerts all over the world with programs of medieval and modern music in a one-woman show.
