Williard Cobb

Alfred Williard Cobb (born December 19, 1929 in Baltimore ) is an American tenor, pianist and music teacher.

life and work

Cobb first studied piano from 1947 to 1951 at Tusculum College (Tennessee). Since 1957 he studied singing at Oberlin College and since 1961 at Trinity College of Music .

He became known as a concert singer in the United States, England and Germany. From 1964 to 1970 he sang mainly medieval vocal works as a tenor at the Studio of Early Music with the mezzo-soprano Andrea von Ramm . In his lectures he offered a wide repertoire from the field of oratorio, religious vocal music and song singing. He gave concerts on the BBC and the Bavarian Radio and also appeared on television.

His voice is documented on numerous recordings of the labels Telefunken , Odeon , HMV , Musical Heritage Society and the Decca-Video ( Julius Caesar von Handel).
