David Haladjian

David Haladjian (also Davit Halajyan; Armenian: Դավիթ Հալաջյան) (born February 7, 1962 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , USSR ) is an Armenian composer , conductor and musicologist living in Switzerland .

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied composition, music theory and piano at the state music college. David Haladjian studied composition at the state Komitas Conservatory in Yerevan (composition class of Edgar Howhannisjan , orchestration with Awet Terterjan , conducting with Hakob Woskanyan) after graduating from the teaching post for music theory subjects. At the same conservatory he completed his post-graduate studies with a licentiate and a dissertation in the subjects of composition and musicology. During his student days David Haladjian worked as a music editor for the state radio and television of Armenia and from 1987 to 1991 as the conductor of the Yerevan Conservatory Choir. In 1991 David Haladjian came to Switzerland, where he studied electro-acoustic music at the Basel Music Academy and at the Zurich University of Music. He currently works as a composer, conductor and music teacher.

Teaching is an important part of his musical activity; he currently teaches piano at the Zumikon Music School and the Zurich Conservatory Music School. Haladjian leads the Maur Singing Circle and the Akusma Chamber Choir.

Several compositions by David Haladjian have been performed in various concerts and music festivals in Armenia , Germany , Israel , the USA , Japan , Russia and Switzerland.
